What is RadioLAN ?RadioLAN is a high-speed, 5 GHz Wireless Local Area Network that allows users to connect together or to an Ethernet Infrastructure without network cables. The RadioLAN family of products includes PCI and PCMCIA Adapters cards and Ethernet Access Points, and are designed and manufactured by RadioLAN Marketing Group. Back to TopWhat types of computer systems does RadioLAN support ?The RadioLAN ISA CardLINK may be installed in any ISA slot, the PCI CardLINK, in 32-bit PCI compliant slots, and the MobiLINK plugs into standard PCMCIA or PC Card slots. The PCI CardLINK and MobiLINK provide a plug and play installation for portable Windows users. Although you may use any computer, it is recommended that it be a 486/66 or newer. Back to TopWhen should I use wireless ??High speed wireless Ethernet can be a valuable tool in setting up your network. You can use wireless and avoid the typical wiring and cable infrastructure costs of a 10baseT network. Area offices in leased buildings no longer need to be cabled for the computer users. Computer moves and office relocation's can be done much faster and less costly through use of wireless Ethernet. Providing support in the office for laptops to be carried into a meeting, and used without the hassle of plugging into a wall jack encourages a more creative use of the computer tools the users have. Home users can attach their PC's and laptops to cable modems and DSL modems without having to run new wires, and benefitting from mobility within the home. Back to TopWho is the best person to setup a wireless network ?The best person to setup a wireless network is the same person you would use for any computer network installation or service. They should be knowledgeable about computers, and have enough of an understanding of your computer networking needs to help plan the installation. Pre planning will make the installation successful. Back to TopHow do I setup a RadioLAN network ?RadioLAN created 10BaseRadio protocol, using the 5.8Ghz band with your setup ease in mind. The RadioLAN wireless systems install just like a standard network interface card (NIC), but without the need to build a physical cable network to carry the signals. 10BaseRadio is a true peer to peer protocol, two or more computers may network together, no hub is needed. To add a new wireless network onto an existing 10BaseT wired network, use the BackboneLINK to bridge your wireless users to the wired network. Setup time will vary, but installation should take about 2 to 5 minutes depending on the operating system involved. For more information, read the Release Notes contained in the latest software release on the RadioLAN's ftp server ftp.radiolan.com . Back to TopI have resource problems with the 130 (P101) card under Win2K/XPThe PCMCIA card (Model 130 or P101) loads it's resources from the driver in Windows, so there is no way to manually change it. If you're using the 130 PCMCIA card and Windows 2000, then the RLPROG utility can update the way memory is allocated. Download the RLPROG utility by clicking here, or by going to the RadioLAN Marketing Group FTP site and downloading Rlprog_V231.exe. Store this program on a DOS floppy, then boot your computer to DOS, and run "RLPROG /PROG UPDATE". This will update the way memory is allocated. Please note the following: 1) You MUST run RLPROG from DOS. It will not run in a DOS compatibility box under Windows. Shareware versions of DOS are available on the Internet. 2) This utility does not need to be run on the 140 card, and will not work against that card. Back to TopWhere can I find information on software releases ?RadioLAN makes all new standard software releases available free to our customers. To obtain the latest software, goto the download page or use our ftp site, ftp.radiolan.com Back to TopWhat is the RLPROG program ?The RLPROG program is shipped with the RadioLAN ISA CardLINK to configure the ISA CardLINK. A second function of RLPROG is to modify memory addressing for the 130 PC CardLINK adapter for Windows2000 and Windows/XP users. Back to TopWhy is my PCI card not being found ?Turn off the computer, unplug the power cord, and remove the PCI controller card. Reinsert the controller card, making sure that it is fully seated in the slot. Also, make sure that the bracket screw is used to secure the card in the slot. If this does not help, try reinserting the controller card into a different PCI slot. Finally, with some older computers the BIOS does not recognize the PCI header type that our device uses. Contact the motherboard/BIOS manufacturer and make sure the BIOS is fully PCI 2.2 compliant and that it recognizes PCI header type 2. For more information, go to http://www.scmmicro.com/faq.html?PID=51&s1=6&s2=32 Back to TopWhy does my PCI shutoff after a few minutes ?A bug in the PCI Model 150 card with the Elan card reader causes some PCI adapters to stop running after a few minutes. This has been corrected with a new board. If you have this problem, contact RadioLAN support for a replacement board. Back to TopWhat operating systems does RadioLAN support ?DOS, Windows 3.1/3.11, Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP, and Novell 3x through 5x Operating systems. The drivers take very little space, either on disk, or in memory, and the normal memory for the operating system you use will be sufficient. Back to TopCan I operate a BackboneLINK as an Ethernet bridge ?No! The RadioLAN BackboneLINK is designed to provide service to WLAN (Wireless LAN) station adapters, and will ignore communications (packets) from other BackboneLINKs. RadioLAN provides other products for indoor bridging. Contact RadioLAN sales for more information. Back to TopHow does roaming work? The BackboneLINK is designed to provide service to WLAN stations. The station adapters recognize the nearest BackboneLINK and register with it. When the user moves into a different BackboneLINK service area, their adapter card will automatically notify the nearest BackboneLINK and request service. This allows portable computer users to easily take their computers with them as they move around the building and continue to have a full 10 Mb network connection.
